In 2007, this travelling exhibition of portraits by Edward Gajdel “honouring individuals who have stood up to their livelihood challenges and found ways to contribute to the well being of others” was launched at a “Be Inspired” fund raising/awareness campaign at Toronto's Gladstone Hotel.
These portraits were inspired by the vision of David Walsh and Sister Susan Moran, co-founders of
6 St Joseph House - a caring community in downtown Toronto. Moved to action by the closing of Toronto's Tent City and the plight of the homeless, they visualized a centre that would offer dignity, meaning and a sense of belonging to those vulnerable to income and livelihood challenges. Today, St Jospeh House is a centre of imagination and friendship, providing mentorship and programs for personal growth and spiritual reflection, as well as resources for the creative arts.
Produced with the generous support of Toronto Image Works, these photographic portraits are a testament to compassion and transformation in action.
The following Slide show is of the 6 St. Joseph Artists' display at the Carlu, in support of a fundraiser for the Association of Daily Bread Food Banks.
